I have just spent the last couple of days trying to create a new form of wire tree sculpture based on the Ents from the Lord of the Rings films.
The only wire available at the time was about a quarter of a roll of 0.4mm bare copper wire, but it was ideal for experimenting to see if I could create something close to the form I desired.
I have learnt a lot from this experiment and I think the next attempt will be a lot better as I have ordered more heavier gauge wire in various metals, bare copper, silver plated copper, aluminium and bare iron so I am looking forward to that arriving.
I have posted a pic of my baby Ent and would welcome any comments.
Note: he is not fully finished yet, but I thought I would share him anyway
Best regards
Hi Tracey,
glad you liked him, there is another one on the go at the moment, his big brother and he will stand about 2 feet tall, I am making himn out of bare iron wire and when he is finished he will go outside to rust naturally.
Bare iron wire is great to get started with as the thinner gauges are nice and soft and easy to work with, it’s also very cheap to buy, if you want to know where to get it drop me a line.
Cheers

Dave, he is precious!!! I new to wire sculpture and am just checking sites out to get inspired and as the LOTR trilogy is my fave, I knew what he was immediately. Nice job.

Hi! I could have sworn I’ve been to this site before but after browsing through some of the post I realized it’s new to me. Nonetheless, I’m definitely happy I found it and I’ll be bookmarking and checking back frequently!
Thanks Lorna, I agree and he also needs more foliage too and a bit more girth, poor devil looks very undernourished at the moment.
Cheers
Dave
Dave I just love this guy! He’s just waiting for a cute little hobbit to sit on his shoulder …
